Delectable aromas and intense flavors in this Santa Barbara Malbec
Lucas & Lewellen Estate Vineyards is located in the Santa Barbara County wine growing regions of Santa Ynez Valley, Los Alamos Valley and Santa Maria Valley. Owned by veteran viticulturist Louis Lucas and retired Superior Court Judge Royce Lewellen, the vineyard is family owned and operated. Sustainably farmed and hand harvested, their 2015 Malbec comes from grapes grown in their Valley View Vineyard overlooking the Santa Ynez River.
We thoroughly enjoyed this wine! Pouring it into the glass the legs lingered along the sides and the delectable aromas included dark berry, earth, purple plum and cherry. On the palate, there were intense notes of cherries and vanilla spice. The finish was semi-dry and smooth with mild tannins and acidity. The winemaker notes mention flavors of raspberry jam, cherries, cacao, toasty vanilla, and rubbed sage.

This is a wine (14.1% alc) that needs food and we paired it with Skirt Steak in Malbec and Cumin.  We used a cup of this wine for the marinade in the recipe we followed. The wine complemented the beef with compatible satisfaction.
