If you're looking for a refreshing summer sipper, The Y Series Viognier will hit the spot! This South Australian Viognier from Yalumba Family Vineyards is part of a collection of classics and new varietals grown in the Barossa and Eden Valleys where winemaker Louisa Rose is highly regarded for creating world recognition for Australian Viognier.
The wine (purchased $10.00/13.5% alc) is a great value for such a delicious Viognier. In the glass, the color is blonde yellow with aromas of green grass, honeysuckle and meadow flowers. There is a slight acidity that leads to citrus lemon flavors and a long, smooth, textured, buttery-spice finish.
If you're a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc wine drinker, this Viognier is a refreshing alternative and will pair well with grilled fish or chicken.
We enjoyed this wine one recent evening with grilled swordfish steaks seasoned with smoked paprika, white Balsamic vinegar, EVOO, Italian seasonings, with freshly squeezed lemon in melted butter at the finish.
