The 2018 Petiole Pinot Noir is garnet red in the glass with aromas of ripe red berries, mild baking spices and herbs. On the palate, the wine feels smooth with cherry and black pepper, and then there's a kick of acidity mid-palate with soft tannins, and a dry, smooth and long finish.
In the glass, the wine pours ruby red. On the nose, there are aromas of dark cherry, purple plums, earth, oak and spice. On the palate, there's a powerful fruit-forward berry-burst in the mouth with the same earth, oak and spiciness. It lingers long with a smooth finish, soft tannins and balanced acidity.
Shannon Ridge Winery lies in the lesser known California wine region of Lake County. Located north of Napa Valley, the wines produced in the Lake County AVA are influenced by its high elevation, volcanic soils rich with minerals, and by Clear Lake which is California's largest inland body of water. This wine region has over 30 wineries with over 9,000 acres of vineyards.
This is soft, and velvet and as elegant as the label is eye catching. Ripe cherry and plum fruit, fresh and juicy, jostles with gentle oak and all this is brought together with a pinch of thyme. It is a bright and vivacious wine that needs no additional accompaniment to make it shine.
