Once in awhile, you taste a wine that really resonates with your palate. Zinfusion from Castoro Cellars did it for me. I had heard good things about this winery, and was looking forward to the opportunity to taste one of their wines. I was not disappointed.
This is an unoaked-style Chardonnay with a small amount of Vermentino and Sauvignon Blanc blended in. The color is straw yellow in the glass with aromas of grass, pineapple and minerals. It is smooth on the palate with a slightly acidic finish.
Victor Vineyards Roadside Red is a zinfandel-based red blend wine. It has a beautiful red color in the glass with juicy berry and spice aromas on the nose. On the palate, there are bursts of dark cherry and berries with hints of toasted oak. The finish is smooth and long.
Shannon Ridge Winery lies in the lesser known California wine region of Lake County. Located north of Napa Valley, the wines produced in the Lake County AVA are influenced by its high elevation, volcanic soils rich with minerals, and by Clear Lake which is California's largest inland body of water. This wine region has over 30 wineries with over 9,000 acres of vineyards.
Educated Guess 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was purchased based on...an educated guess. I was searching for a Cabernet to serve with beef tenderloin for an upcoming dinner party. The label intrigued me and when I read that it was a Napa Cab, I decided I couldn't go wrong. I'm glad my 'educated guess' was correct - this is a great Cabernet for the price.
